Food Drive with South End Community Fridge
NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS: SBNA FOOD DRIVE
The SBNA teamed up with the South End Community Fridge Pantry to participate in a food drive. SBNA/ Community Fridge Drive a Huge Success! A big thank you to all of our neighbors who donated to the food drive. Our neighborhood organizers and volunteers stocked the fridge and pantry at 549 Columbus Ave with over 50 bags of donations. Neighbors of all ages donated to the drive including eight year old Henry of Saint Botolph Street (parents: Doug and Dorsey). Henry used his tooth fairy money to purchase food at the South End Emporium. He was 67 cents short and the Emporium donated the amount. A special thanks to Councilor Flynn for bringing a donation and for his support to the Fridge, to Jennifer, who brought sandwiches for the volunteers, to Claire, our marketing genius behind the event, (and flyering) and to Kathie and Lorraine for organizing the drive. If would like to donate, you can drop off your donations at the Community Fridge 24/7. Food insecurity is very real and every donation goes a long way. Go to South End Community Fridge Pantry to participate in a food drive. |
WHO ARE the South End Community Fridge?
On March 24 2021, a large, white refrigerator was placed inside a turquoise wooden shed in front of Make Shift Boston at 549 Columbus Avenue with a hand-written sign that reads, "FREE FOOD Leave What You Can, Take What You Need." Started by a grassroots group of volunteers, South End Fridge allows residents in need food and personal hygiene items that they can access anonymously at their convenience, while allowing donors to contribute items anonymously and at their convenience. A portion of the funds for South End Fridge will reimburse Make Shift Boston, a non-profit that offers a safe space to people of color, LGBTQ persons and others for co-working and community events, for electricity. For more information, click here and follow South End Fridge on Instagram @southendfridge and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/southendfridge. Donations can be made at the South End Community Fridge GoFundMe and on Cash App at $SouthEndFridge. Want to learn more?
